![]() ![]() Regardless of the beating around the bush, it should be obvious why. I can't speak for Tom and have no association with the statement that was made. I'm one of the people overseeing the Engage part of that site. ![]() My opinions are my own and don't represent Tom or the Gamebanana administration at large. You know, for somebody advocating for "not censoring anything," you seem to be censoring yourself quite a bit. They can say, "I don't like this even if it doesn't break any specific rule, so get rid of it." and you have no choice but to comply, because it's their site. You can agree or disagree with the decision if you want, but Rule #13 is literally, "Admins don't like your mod, so remove it." which is always a valid rule. This rule is invoked when no other rule applies." So it is absolutely the correct ruling for this kind of situation. PS: Rule #13 of Gamebanana says: "The admins can remove mods at their discretion. I'm not gonna go and raise torches and pitchforks over them making their own decision in their site. It's their site, they can do whatever they want. Doesn't seem very consistent with the rest of the site from what I read in the comments of this thread. I mean, I get why they don't like the part, since heavily implied romance with children is messed up, but still. "You can uncensor anything, except this part here because we don't like this part" is unusual. If they don't want an uncensor mod, then don't allow an uncensor mod. Well, it just seems like a weird decision to me. It's just a bit of a weird line to draw, I guess? I never browsed the site before, but apparently they also have stuff like pornographic mods or whatever? It just seems strange to say, "This uncensor mod cannot uncensor this specific dialogue because it involves heavily implied romance with children."Ĭan't say I care that much in all honesty, since I've never liked the whole thing of the main character being able to marry anyone and everyone instead of the game having fixed ships like the old games, but. Gamebanana's admins can do whatever they want. I mean, I don't really think it's a problem. So censoring a mod meant to uncensor makes it rather worthless. If you don't like or want the Anna and Jean stuff, that's fine, but generally I think that if there's an uncensor mod, it shouldn't be "we'll uncensor some stuff, but not this particular stuff because it's icky." If you're working to uncensor a work, you uncensor all of it. This inherently opens up their rules for inconsistency. And all of this is perfectly within their rules because they have a Rule that they used which basically said they can take down a mod based on absolutely nothing but a moderator's whims, which is once again, not a good look for the site. I think it's at least pretty clear that Gamesbanana aren't really acting on consistent beliefs and ideology here, especially if you look at the rest of their site, which contributes to my disdain for this situation. From forum posts and discord logs, it just seems that they were afraid of being brigaded by puritan twitter mobs, which at least is more honest, even if it's still a bad look for them. And citing the ESRB "banning" it when the content is still in the game in Japanese is also dumb. Especially since localizers are both not the developers, but that "developer intent" only extended to certain parts of the mod, not all of it. Like, a mod site actually acting like they give a crap about "developer intent" is entirely laughable. I think no matter what side of the argument you're on, seeing the justification Gamebanana gave for taking it down, you can immediately tell that it's complete and utter bullshit. mangled, unreadable or misunderstanding words majorly to change the context unintentionally.Įdit2: ah alright OP is just deleting their comments on parts of the post where people disagree with them and keep up the comments with the people who do agree with them, okay. Gamebanana can remove whatever content it wants.Įdit: also lol 'incorrect translation' it's not incorrect if it's intended localization.'Incorrect translation' would be carrying the same message but poorly translated, i.e. You can argue about "they're not real children tho" or about "muh censorship" but that's how it is. There's no pussyfooting around it it got removed because hosting a mod that lets you get married with children is a bad look. If you go to the comment section of that mod you will see a lot of people very angry for the very specific reason of not being able to romance the two not-even-tweenage children. This has already been talked about and I'll reiterate from the last time it was talked about good idea instantly soured by including the highly controversial Anna/Jean supports. ![]()
